About the Digital Collection

Mapping Music @ UMD focuses on the social function, intersectionality, and canonic implications of music-making practices, centering values of respect, social justice, and community. Our work is grounded in archival, primary source research at the Special Collections in Performing Arts (SCPA) in the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library and the Special Collections and University Archives (SCUA) in Hornbake Library at the University of Maryland, College Park. We present a compilation of student work that ranges from maps, contextualized timelines, data visualizations, and digital curation.

All content on this site is researched and curated by the undergraduate students in FIRE: Music & Social Identity, directed by Dr. Elizabeth Massey

The digital collection of Mapping Music @ UMD is curated each year by a new cohort of undergraduate students enrolled in the FIRE: Music & Social Identity at the University of Maryland, College Park. Find out more about each cohort of student curators!
